"What did you do in the
Great Pandemic, Daddy?"
"Well, son, I built a website
and started blogging."
"Why did you do that, Daddy?"
"Er..."
2020 VISION
I don't have kids, so the idea of leaving a legacy never bothered me much.
But as the past historic year has unfolded I've begun to see things differently.
Back in March last year when the first covid lockdown was announced,
I started building a website to chronicle the doings of Stopgap Theatre Company,
something I had been promising to do since the worldwide web was born.
Once I'd done that. it occurred to me that I have doings of my own as well,
and that I could suddenly be "out there" having been "in here" all my life.
So I decided to put a few cards on the table and see if anyone wanted to play.
Where it goes from there remains to be seen.
If nothing else, it has given me a sense of purpose during a difficult time.
Who knows how one's life is going to turn out? This is me at 17, about to leave my childhood home in Bournemouth for a new life in London. It is January 1961 and the world is at my feet.
